Chill就是寒冷、冷淡或扫兴。Chill这个词经常被用来形容天气。

如冷飕飕的夜晚，a chill night。

但是，chill也可以用在其他个方面。北韩进行地下核试验后，报纸的标题说："North-South Relations Suffer a Sudden Chill." 南北韩的关系突然冷却。

Chill也可以用在日常生活。两个邻居因为吵架而关系冷淡, "There was a chill between the two feuding neighbors." 

一个工程师的项目失败降低了他被提升的前景, "The failed project chilled the engineer's chances for a promotion." 

裁减工资的消息大大降低了工人的热情, "The news of reducing pay chilled the workers' enthusiasm."
